My family found out I've become Catholic some time before Christmas. While Christmas itself went well, I knew it was too good to be true.
I came home today to find a letter from a cousin of mine telling me that I'm going to hell.
I'm not going to hell because of my chosen profession (although I'm sure insurance and law at the very least will buy me a nice long stint in purgatory) but because I have left The One True Church(tm) and am "dating a man who doesn't have a scriptural right to remarry."
Sigh.
I'm off for a fun exciting evening of being subject to the Socratic method in wills, but I'll post my response to her here when I get it finished.

I'll say a prayer for you (and for your cousin while I'm at it).
I wonder if in our past when our families first left the Catholic Church a couple hundred years ago and became Protestant if our Catholic ancestors treated our Protestant ancestors like our Church of Christ family treats us.
You're in my prayers. I wish you were in my Fundamental Theology class...it would give you the answers you need from the philosophical standpoint.
One of the books we're using in class is Kreeft and Tacelli's "Handbook of Christian Apologetics." While we haven't gotten into it yet, it may be one that will help you, as it has helped many converts to the Catholic faith.
Honey, you aren't going to Hell for being Catholic...you might want to warn your family members they are in danger of going to Hell for lack of charity and persecution of Christ, though. (Tongue in cheek...)
Lol. Adoro, I know I'm not going to Hell for being Catholic. :-) I think what surprised me the most was that this cousin, whom I haven't seen in over a year, felt the need to critique choices I've made.
I'm working on my response to her, but between work and law school it's slow going. I'm using some of the great resources at scripturecatholic.com too.
