That I'm noticing most now that I'm an "official" Catholic. I put official in quotes because I'm starting to think I've always thought Catholic, even during my days as an evangelical, fundamentalist protestant :)
I realized this morning as I was putting on the beautiful, celtic cross my sponsor gave me at the vigil that I would have NEVER worn a cross during my CoC days. It just wasn't done during my days as an anti. I remember hearing screeds against cross-wearing from the pulpit. "If Jesus had been killed by guillotine or electric chair, would you wear that around your neck?"
Now I have the gold, celtic cross from my sponsor and a silver crucifix necklace blessed by my priest. My Scotch-Irish Presbyterian forefathers are probably turning in their graves at that!
Come to think of it, I guess I really shouldn't be surprised that my Scotch-Irish Presbyterian forebears turned Cambellite once they made it to Kentucky, should I?

Oh, my! I've heard the "electric chair" rationale from atheists, but I didn't realize that some Christians espoused that too. (I had heard a lot against crucifixes from both sets...but not crosses...)
I think my Congregationalist grandmother was a closet Catholic. She was a huge fan of Francis of Assisi...even had a statue of him in her garden...and had a quote from Francis de Sales tucked neatly into her KJV Bible...
Incidentally, did your mom come to the Vigil?
Isn't it just so fun to wear a cross or crucifix now? I LOVE it! It is the little things...incidentally, I'm hoping to get a new crucifix for my birthday coming up...*bats eyelashes at hubby.* :-D
Kasia--she didn't come to the vigil, but she was babysitting my sick niece. The vigil would have been waaayy too long for a hyperactive six year-old.
Stephanie--I love the little things too. I haven't found a wall crucifix I like yet, but I did get a small St. Therese statue today. Now I have to decide if it will go on the shelves in my living room or the shelves in my bedroom :)
Of course, if I was really evil I'd get a nice "papist" or "property of B XVI" sweatshirt to wear to the next CoC family gathering!
